Business Digest![]() March 22, 2003 Innovation Awards Stoel Rives, a law firm with offices in Salt Lake City, and Wasatch Digital iQ magazine honored six Utah companies with Utah Innovations awards. A panel representing government, private industry and education chose the winners, who were announced this week during a conference at the University of Utah. Echelon Biosciences Inc., a maker of nonnatural lipids, won in the biotechnology category, while Brigham Young University won in the chemicals and pharmaceuticals category for its discovery of an enzyme that may lead to the production of better pain-control medications. The award in the medical devices category went to Rubicon Medical Inc. for a filter used in surgery; SiliconOptics won in the computer software and Web services category for its software to design nanophotonics devices. Data communications technology company Max Stream Inc. won in the electrical devices category. The award in the mechanical devices and advance materials category went to BYU for its IsoTruss grid structures capable of supporting 170 times their weight. |
